Plaid is In

I really like this plaid effect!  It can really jazz up a card without having to add too many textures or embellishments.  This celebrate card is made with melon mambo, pretty in pink and crumb cake card stock.  You can't really tell from the photo but the crumb cake actually has some tiny bits of a darker colour throughout.  It gives another illusion of dimension.

For the leaves I used pink passion (which is a great substitute for melon mambo -- in my humble opinion) and pretty in pink.  Now the plaid effect is achieved by using the edge of the ink pad and going down the stamp on the diagonal.  The sentiment stamp is from the "Something to Celebrate" set.  Again, I used the white craft ink to decorate the background of the cards.

This second card I think turned out really well!  I used the 1 3/8" square punch which is the white card stock (Reflections c.s. as I'm out of Whisper White -- darn) behind the leaves.  I added one more colour to the plaid effect on these leaves.  I started with a base coat of sahara sand before using brilliant blue and ruby red diagonally.  I tried just using the red and blue but it looked ridiculous, lol.

The sentiment "Get Well Soon" (from Sincere Salutations) was embossed with sterling silver embossing powder (Stampendous).  Card stock colours are sahara sand, ruby red, and brilliant blue.

So ... what do you think?  Have you tried this technique for yourself yet?

  2. This really is a fun technique especially for more masculine cards.
