Celebrate Balloons WCC19

One activity I am interested in trying is floating high in the sky towards the clouds in a hot air balloon. True, it may not be quite as a romantic adventure as I perceive it to be. I do know the on-board heat source (burner fueled by propane) can be quite noisy. But I can always bring earplugs to help me enjoy the experience. I discovered today the balloon part is called an envelope and the basket is sometimes called a gondola or capsule. We humans have been interested in flying forever it seems. Hence our fascination with birds. How . do . they . do . that?
Here are a couple of quotes I like illustrating this:

"When once you have tasted flight,
you will always walk with your eyes turned skyward,
for there you have been and there you will always be."

Leonardo da Vinci

"I have know today a magnificent intoxication.
I have learnt how it feels to be a bird.
I have flown.
Yes I have flown.
I am still astonished at it,
still deeply moved."

Le Figaro, 1908

Which leads to the inspiration challenge to our Watercooler gang. I found this lovely set of vases on google images:

I like everything about this image. The blending of the colours, how the vases are displayed and, of course, the shapes. I see balloons in this photo. So my card today uses the balloon framelits currently available in the Occasions 2015 catalogue.

stamps/other: celebrate today, sheltering tree, balloon framelits
paper: perfect plum, whisper white, irresistibly yours d.s.p.
ink: garden green, crushed curry, bermuda bay, soft sky, perfect plum, pink pirouette, soft suede, crumb cake, blendies: d. delight light, c. cabana light, p. pirouette light, color lifter

To make this card I used the balloon framelit to cut out 3 pieces of the revealing polka dot specialty paper available for SAB 2015. I used daubers starting with the lightest colour in the middle on each balloon. I then used the blending markers to smooth out the colours. The sky uses the so-called "ground" stamp from the sheltering tree set. I also sponged some soft sky and crumb cake on the background to add definition. I didn't want the balloons to appear as though they were flying through nothing.  :)

Do head over to the Watercooler Challenge page and see what my friends have made. And then if you feel inspired by either the vase photo or one of the projects, please enter it through the link at the bottom to be considered for the contest.

Hope you too have the chance to realize one of your dreams someday.

  4. Hi Bev, wonderful inspiration photo and fun challenge! I love your quotations as well as, of course, your card. Wouldn't it be wonderful to go flying high, suspended under one of those hot air balloons (or envelopes). I see them frequently here in Alberta and always wish it could be me up there.
