Wacky Watercooler Blog Hop P. 2

Wacky Watercooler New Catalog(ue) Blog Hop

Autumn in Canada can be very lovely.  It really is a great time to visit if you ever get the chance.  We are currently enjoying lots of warm air and sunshine.  It sure makes up for those rainy cool days which have you wondering if spring and winter are the only seasons. Taking notice of the changing seasons is a great way to feel connected with the world at large and my Stampin' Up! demonstrator friends in particular.  Which brings me to this Holiday Blog Hop .....

Perhaps you have arrived here after viewing Jeannine's marvelous creations. I am in awe of her beautiful style.  If you are joining the Hop by starting here, try to get back and view the artists before me.  You will notice some clickable buttons at the bottom of this post which will assist you in navigating.

This first card of mine is for Thanksgiving.  Here in Canada Thanksgiving is the second Monday in October. Of course this card could be used for Halloween or merely as an autumn card.  I have seen many variations of cards using these elements and I thank all the wonderful demonstrators who have inspired me.

The Holiday Catalogue elements in this card are the top two strips of washi tape: top layer - old olive, middle layer - crumb cake. To give the illusion of the heat we are experiencing, I have used a sponge dauber with so saffron ink over the ridges created from the embossing folder. I also sponged some ink on the pumpkin to give depth.

stamps: teeny tiny wishes
paper:  whisper white, pumpkin pie, gumball green, early espresso, crumb cake
ink:  early espresso, so saffron, pumpkin pie.
punches: extra-large oval, word window, modern label, 1 inch circle
Big Shot tools: autumn accents Bigz die, little leaves sizzlit, woodgrain e.f.
accessories: season of style and epic day this and that designer washi tape
technique: Punch Art

*****

My second and final card for this Hop, is a Christmas card.  The stamp set, the textured paper and the washi tape are all from the Holiday Catalogue.  I have seen some cards from other demonstrators using a cut out shape to mask around a feature element. Here is my rendition of that technique.  Simply use sponges or daubers to create the coloured glow.

stamps: special season, more merry wishes
paper: whisper white, crisp cantaloupe, textured cherry cobbler
ink: pool party, crisp cantaloupe, baked brown sugar
accessories: season of style designer washi tape
tools: ovals collection framelit cutout, sponges, modern label punch

If you press next you will move ahead to see the unique creations of Kathe.  Thanks for hopping by!

  3. Such wonderful cards, Bev! I really like the 'glow' you added to your tree; nice effect. I'm familiar with how to make the punch-art pumpkin, but I'd love to know how you made that cutest little acorn!

    1. Hi Deb. thanks! The acorn is just the Bigz die. You punch it out twice in both colours. Then with the early espresso acorn, use the 1" circle punch to carve out a semi circle.

  4. Gorgeous cards!! I'm a big fan of punch art too! While I consider myself "sponging impaired", I think I might give your second card a shot, because it's just that awesome!!!

    1. "Queenie" :D I agree punch art is so much fun. I doubt you are "sponging impaired" funny lady! Use whatever tool you like for sponging. It's probably a certain look you are after.

  7. Love your cards, Bev. Neat idea with the yellow sponging! I keep forgetting that I have that embossing folder, too. I also love the "halo" affect on the Christmas card.

  8. Hi Bev, let's hope this comment "sticks". Hate when things disappear into the ethernet!

I love your projects. The punch art pumpkin and the acorn make the thanksgiving card! What a clever idea to overlap the Washi tape like that. It gives the illusion of there being a third row of tape. I'm a firm believe in sponging and love the added dimension that it gives your pumpkin as well as the woodgrain embossing. What a fun card!

I decided when the Holiday Catalogue came out that I wasn't going to buy the Special Season stamp set. I thought the tree was too close to the one in the Lovely as a Tree and the retired Christmas Lodge. Seeing it with all those decorations on the branches, I realize I was wrong. I may just have to break down and buy the set after all. Love the way you masked and sponged your oval. I would never have used the Crisp Cantaloupe for the base cardstock and I have no idea why because it gives the card such a nice, warm glow. Thank you so much for sharing.
